Venepuncture
This 1/2 day course covers all the skills and knowledge to safely carry out venepuncture. Although there will be opportunities to practice on a model, the candidate will have to undergo supervised practice in a clinical setting to be confirmed as competent. It is the responsibility of the candidate to ensure they have their competencies signed before practicing independently.

Explore practical aspects of venepuncture

Assess and select suitable sites for venepuncture and sites to be avoided

Practice will be by using a simulation arm with synthetic blood.

Critically analyze the potential complications associated with venepuncture and discuss appropriate actions to prevent and/or treat these complications.

Discuss health and safety issues and the prevention and control of infection with regard to venepuncture
