Identify what a Personality Disorder (Antisocial/borderline) is and what might cause someone to develop a personality disorder.
Recognise how a person’s early developmental experiences might affect how people respond to stress in adulthood.
Be able to relate own emotions to difficult situations when working with people with a Personality Disorder.
Be able to apply some validation skills when liasing with and managing difficult situations when working with people with a Personality Disorder.
Employ approaches and practice that promote containment and therapeutic boundaries.
Personality Disorder (PD)
This 1-day course is aimed at giving participants who support people with either an anti-social or borderline personality disorder insight into the diagnosis. Participants will begin to understand the link to between traumatic childhood experiences and adult presentations as well as using basic attachment theory to gain a more in-depth understanding of the people they support. Finally, the course will examine and try and make sense of our own emotions when supporting people with personality disorder before looking at some basic ideas of how support can be more effective andcontaining. Course is suitable for support workers and/or provider managers.
