Physical Intervention & Breakaway Techniques

This 6 hour course is suitable for Aid Workers, Ambulance Crew, Care Staff, Charity Workers, Childcare Staff, College Staff, Council Staff, Dentists, Doctors, First Aiders, Hospital Staff, Medical Receptionists, Nurses, Paramedics, Social Workers, University Staff , etc.
The TUC has identified workplace violence to be the fastest growing health and safety concern and ranked as one of the top 5 workplace hazards
This course is designed to give people who come into contact with potentially violent people the ability to avoid an attack and deal with the worst case scenario of defending against violence.

Areas Covered:-
Look at how fear affects a situation- understanding it biological and psychological affect to both parties.
Increase personal safety awareness
Assess level of threat and judge appropriate response
Maintaining a safe distance using the fence – verbal and physical methods of keeping personal space
Understand the importance of verbal self defence.
Learn how to avoid common physical attacks such as: -
Punches, Rugby tackle, Head butt.
Practice the following breakaway techniques:-
Head lock, front grabs to neck area, wrist grabs, bear hugs, hair grabs
Understand how to protect yourself on the ground against a standing attacker
Know what to do after an incident
All attendees should be advised that they will be engaging in some mildly strenuous physical activities. Anyone with any medical, physical, or psychological problems that could be complicated by such activities should advise the course tutor.
